On September 5, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) solemnly held its Opening Ceremony for the academic year 2025–2026, joining the nationwide back-to-school celebration of 1.7 million teachers and nearly 30 million students and commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
The ceremony took place in the jubilant atmosphere marking both the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education, now MOET. For the first time in history, the national opening ceremony, organized by the Ministry, was broadcast live from the National Convention Center and connected online with educational institutions across the country—from preschool to universities and vocational schools in 34 provinces and cities—symbolizing the unity and innovative spirit of Vietnam’s education system.

On this meaningful occasion, USTH organized its own ceremony, both on campus and online, connecting with the national opening ceremony.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Chu Hoàng Hà, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), highly praised the university’s remarkable achievements in the 2024–2025 academic year. USTH has risen to 7th place among the top Vietnamese universities, an outstanding milestone for a university that has only completed 16 years of development.
In particular, last May, USTH had the honor of welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and his Spouse, together with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, to visit and exchange with Vietnamese students and young intellectuals. This historic event reaffirmed USTH’s leading role in Vietnam–France cooperation in education and science, while demonstrating both nations’ high-level commitment to empowering young generations and advancing science and technology for national development.

Assoc. Prof. Chu Hoang Ha expressed his confidence that in 2025–2026 USTH will continue to build on its strengths, seize opportunities, and make tangible contributions to training high-quality human resources in science and technology, realizing Vietnam’s aspiration to become a prosperous, innovative nation.

This year, GEN 16 is proudly named after Professor and Academician Tran Dai Nghia, an eminent scientist and military engineer who dedicated his life to Vietnam’s scientific and technological advancement. He was also the first President of the Vietnam Academy of Science, now the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).
The naming of GEN 16 after Professor Tran Dai Nghia coincides with the VAST’s 50th anniversary, carrying profound meaning: a tribute to one of the nation’s greatest scientific minds and a symbolic bridge linking 50 years of scientific endeavor with the present generation’s pursuit of knowledge.

He expressed his belief that with determination and intellectual strength, GEN 16 will become a generation of responsible, resilient, and visionary students, embodying the spirit of USTH and continuing the legacy of Vietnamese scientists toward a prosperous and powerful nation.

During the ceremony, USTH honored the valedictorians and salutatorians of the 2025 entrance examinations, along with new students who achieved high results in the National Excellent Student Competitions, awarding them with full A1 scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Representing all GEN 16 students, Nguyen Ngoc Phuoc Huy, the top scorer of the B00 exam block, expressed pride and determination to study diligently and become not only competent professionals but also responsible citizens contributing positively to society.

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Chu Hoang Ha beat the drums, officially inaugurating the academic year 2025–2026 and marking a new learning journey for GEN 16.
Following the on-campus ceremony, USTH’s lecturers, staff, and students joined the National Opening Ceremony, livestreamed from the National Convention Center. The combination of in-person and virtual formats reflected not only the harmony between tradition and modernity, national pride and global integration, but also underscored the collective commitment of the Party, the State, and society to advancing education in Vietnam.
