On December 8th, 2022, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) had a meeting with the representatives of Weather Force and ISCALE on the future cooperation plan.
Participating in the meeting, on the side of USTH was Mr. Luc Le Calvez – Director of Direction of Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer (DRITT), Assoc. Prof. Ngo Duc Thanh – Co-Director of Department of Space and Applications (SA), Dr. Tran Giang Son – Co-Director of Department of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. To Thi Mai Huong – Deputy Director of DRITT, Dr. Tong Si Son – Deputy Director of Department of SA, Dr. Mai Huong – Deputy Director of Department of Water – Environment – Oceanography, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nhi – officer of Department of International Cooperation; on the side of Weather Force was Mrs. Christine David – CEO, Ms. Morgane Lovat – Head of Product Marketing, Ms. Anouk Chamayou – Project Manager, Mr. Pascal Venzac – COO (online from Toulouse), Ms. Kelly Grassi – Data Scientist (online from Toulouse); on the side of ISCALE was Mr. Kien Nguyen – CEO, Mr. Da Nguyen – Project Manager.
After introducing and welcoming the representatives attending the meeting, there were presentations introducing USTH, Weather Force and ISCALE.
USTH aims to become a world-class research university with long-term academic values and high applicability to socio-economic development. The current major research areas of the University include artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning; applied biotechnology in smart agriculture; health care, advanced materials; recycled energy; remote sensing; environment; combating climate change and sustainable development. USTH has built 2 international joint laboratories and many talented young research groups, bringing the participation of many excellent and experienced scientists at universities, research organizations of Vietnam, France, and other countries.
WeatherForce’s mission is to co-create actionable weather-intelligent solutions operated worldwide. They transform raw weather data into indicators customized to their customers’ business to improve their decision making.
ISCALE provides computing solutions with new updated technologies and efficient processes which are able to integrate with other systems and solutions.
In the next session, Dr. Tran Giang Son – Co-Director of Department of Information and Communication Technology and Dr. Tong Si Son – Deputy Director of Department of Space and Applications, presented their recent projects which are related to Precision Agriculture, aiming at decision support for rice cultivation in Vietnam.
Speaking at the meeting, Mrs. Christine David – CEO of Weather Force, affirmed that USTH and Weather Force are sharing the common research directions. The cooperation between the companies and the university will help to gather talents from both sides and to develop their research. The success of the projects will benefit not only Vietnamese agriculture but also farmers in different geographical areas.
On behalf of ISCALE, Mr. Kien Nguyen – CEO, showed his interest in USTH’s research projects and would like to collaborate with USTH and Weather Force in a long-term plan. He emphasized that this cooperation will bring advantages to weather sensitive businesses and contribute to the development of technologies in agriculture.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of USTH, Weather Force and ISCALE all agreed with the initial cooperation proposals, and expressed their desire to build and develop a long-term cooperation relationship and expect the success of the future projects. The two companies and USTH look forward to further discussions in the upcoming meetings with representatives from their departments and hope to sign the Memorandum of Understanding soon.
