On April 13th, 2023, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) had a meeting with La Rochelle University (France) on the cooperation plan for the upcoming time.
Participating in the meeting, on the side of USTH was Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector, Mr. Luc Le Calvez – Director of Direction of Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer (DRITT), Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Quynh – Co-Director of Department of Advanced Materials science and Nanotechnology, Dr. Tran Giang Son – Co-Director of Department of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Mai Huong – Deputy Director of Department of Water-Environment-Oceanography, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation; on the side of La Rochelle University was Prof. Jean-Marc Ogier – President of La Rochelle University, Dr. Antoine Doucet – University Professor, Vice-President of European University.
After welcoming the delegates, the two universities introduced their overview information, training programs, research areas and development plans.
La Rochelle University is a public university, based in La Rochelle, France, affiliated with the Academy of Poitiers. Founded in 1993, the university is a dynamic multidisciplinary university in France. With a team of highly qualified lecturers and researchers, and a modern laboratory system, La Rochelle University offers a favorable environment for students to study and research with high-quality training programs. By 2000, the university had more than 6000 students from many countries around the world. In particular, the university has many courses and exchanges for students from Asia – Pacific and America. International students who come from 92 countries make up 11.8% at the university. With a network of 157 partners inside and outside France, La Rochelle University is confident to bring opportunities to study and research in the field of science and technology for students in many parts of the world.
University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) is a public university established in 2009 within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreement between the two countries Vietnam and France with the orientation of becoming an excellent world-class university training in science and technology. The University cooperates with the prestigious universities and research institutes in France to co-award Master’s degrees and opens a Vietnam-France double degree program for 3 majors. An unique feature of USTH’s training program is that students are introduced and supported to find internship opportunities for 3-6 months abroad. An average of 60% of USTH’s students have had the opportunity to do internships at universities and research institutes in France and many other countries with advanced science and technology in Europe and Asia such as Germany, Finland, Italia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, etc. With the strong support of the governing body, VAST, the French Embassy in Vietnam, the Consortium of more than 30 French universities and research institutes, the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD) and with the investment from the Government of Vietnam, USTH has built 2 international joint laboratories and 1 strong research group, 2 potential research groups, bringing the participation of many excellent and experienced scientists at universities, research organizations of Vietnam, France, and many other countries.
After the introduction, the representatives of two universities discussed the potential cooperation plan between USTH and La Rochelle University in the future.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Jean-Marc Ogier – President of La Rochelle University affirmed the importance of strong cooperation between the two universities and believed in its development in the future. He specially emphasized the student exchange activities in double degree training, research and internship. In addition, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector of USTH shared that the two universities are completing the procedures for signing of the double bachelor’s degree program in Information and Communication Technology. Moreover, USTH and La Rochelle University will have lecturer exchange activities and cooperate in the field of Water-Environment-Oceanography, Nanotechnology and Energy.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives of USTH and La Rochelle University both agreed with the cooperation proposals and expressed their desire to develop a stronger long-term cooperation relationship. The two universities look forward to further discussions in the upcoming meetings with representatives from their departments and hope to sign the double bachelor’s degree program soon.
