The “INNO-INSPIRATION USTH 2024” contest aims to build a creative learning and research environment for students, promote creative activities in science and technology, create useful products for life, and contribute to the development of the startup ecosystem at USTH. The topic of this year’s competition is “Smart Campus – For a better students’ Experience at University”. The deadline to submit registration applications is June 30, 2024.
S&T SCOPE
Student teams are free to develop products/software/solutions creatively to contribute to a smarter Campus and a better university. Initiatives and innovative solutions submitted for the contest can be in all fields of science and technology developed at USTH (Biotechnology, Medical science and Technology, Food science and technology, Information and Communication Technology, Data Science, Cyber Security, Applied Environmental Technology, Chemical Technology, Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Space Science and Satellite Technology, …), which can be related but not limited to some suggestions below:
- Smart materials, smart environmental management: (waste classification, garbage treatment, microorganisms decomposing plastics/ toxins) …
- Smart classrooms: attendance cheating, in exams (detecting cheating students, …), solving the current status of student’s attendance and exams cheating in universities, detecting/warning air quality in classrooms, and issuing warnings, …
- Smart student activity management system (attendance, student profile, …)
- Smart garage: License plate recognition, detecting points with gas pollution concentration, alarm/ detecting of vehicle location of gasoline leakage, …
- Smart laboratory: detecting/warning of toxic gas concentration and giving warnings, the management system of chemical, machinery, and equipment in the laboratory, solutions to save energy …
- Smart canteen: calorie estimation, nutrition, …
- Products/ Solutions to improve students’ mental health, and physical health: functional foods, probiotics – intestinal microbiota system, resistant starch, diet for each disease …
PRIZE STRUCTURE
- Initiative Awards: maximum 10 proposals will be selected and each will be awarded 10,000,000 VND.
- Final round Awards:
+ First prize (01 laureate): 10,000,000 VND
+ Second prize (01 laureate): 7,000,000 VND
+ Third prize (02 laureates): 5,000,000 VND
+ Consolation prizes (02 laureates): 3,000,000 VND
APPLICANTS
Candidates are students studying bachelor’s and master’s degrees, PhD students at USTH, or USTH alumni at the time of registration.
Note:
- Any Bachelor or Master student registered at USTH at the time of registration can lead a group to apply for the Contest. Groups should be of at least 3 and at most 5 members (at least 80% should study at USTH or USTH alumni ).
- Each group only participates in one topic. Teams adhere to the Contest plan, ensuring that at least 2/3 of the team members are present at the live reporting sessions. The list of members shouldn’t be changed after the end of the “initiative round”, and during the “initiative round” changes cannot be more than 50% from the original registration.
IMPLEMENTATION TIME
1. “Initiative Round” (selection of contestants): July 1st to July 15th, 2024
The Organizing Committee evaluates the submissions and selects a maximum of 10 initiatives to compete for the awards.
2. “Implementation round”: July 15th to October 20th 2024
- The Organizing Committee coordinates with the Mentors (according to the initial registration of the contesting teams) to guide the teams to complete the selected initiatives.
- In the process of completing the projects, teams receive advice from Mentors including access to and support from facilities at USTH.
- Teams implement their ideas, prototypes, or products and submit a report on the outcome in the form of written explanations and 01 video (max.3 minutes), by 15 January 2024.
3. “ Final round ” and award ceremony: first two weeks of November 2024
The Organizing Committee plans and implements the live pitching presentation of the 10 teams, for the Jury Board to evaluate the submissions and select the laureate teams, and award prizes to the winners.
GENERAL REGULATIONS
- Submission must be written in English with content items according to the format prescribed by the Organizing Committee.
- The submission clearly states the objectives, implementation steps, implementation methods, expected results, expected products, equipment, software – proposed supplies.
- Submissions are original ideas that have never been implemented published nor submitted for any school/provincial/national/international awards at the time of registration.
