On September 6, 2024, at the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, Hanoi, the 2024 Vallet Scholarship Award Ceremony was held for students and postgraduate students with outstanding achievements in the Northern region.
This year, USTH is honored to have 12 students receiving the Vallet scholarship, including 2 students receiving the Vallet scholarship for the Biology and Earth & Environmental Sciences categories. Each scholarship is valued at 29 million VND.
Attending the event were Professor Tran Thanh Van – Founder of the “Rencontres du Vietnam” (Meeting Vietnam) Science Organization; Dr. Esperan Padonou – Director of the Vallet Scholarship Fund; representatives from the French Embassy; guests who are former leaders of the Party and State; former leaders and current leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, along with distinguished guests who have accompanied the Vallet scholarship throughout the years. Representing USTH was Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Rector of the University.
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Vallet Scholarship Fund. To date, the Fund has awarded more than 50,000 scholarships with a total value of over 500 billion VND in Vietnam; the scholarship amount has increased steadily each year in both quantity and value. In 2024 alone, more than 2,100 scholarships worth over 40 billion VND were awarded across the country to 3 main groups: excellent high school students (15 million VND each); excellent undergraduate students (29 million VND each); and excellent postgraduate students (45 million VND each).

At the Award Ceremony, Bui Viet Thanh – an Aeronautical Engineering student – on behalf of 167 students receiving the 2024 Vallet scholarship in the Northern region, sent his thanks to Prof. Odon Vallet, Prof. Tran Thanh Van, Dr. Esperan Padonou, Prof. Le Kim Ngoc, Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Ha, the late Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu, and everyone who built this meaningful scholarship program.

Viet Thanh also shared: “Besides financial support, the Vallet scholarship is a great source of motivation, helping us feel more confident on our upcoming journey, to continue striving with an upward spirit, regardless of difficulties and challenges, to be ‘firm as a rock’ so as not to let down the trust the Organizing Committee has placed in us, and from there to contribute more to the fields we pursue as well as to society.”

The Vallet Scholarship was established with the voluntary contributions of Prof. Odon Vallet, working at Sorbonne University, French Republic. The scholarship has accompanied the science and education development activities of the “Rencontres du Vietnam” Science Organization, founded by Prof. Tran Thanh Van and his wife, Prof. Le Kim Ngoc, to award scholarships to outstanding pupils and students in Vietnam.
The scholarship is a recognition of the tireless efforts and excellent academic achievements of USTH students and postgraduate students. Not only that, the scholarship is also an encouragement for them to continue promoting the spirit of studiousness and keeping alive the fire of love and passion for science and technology.
The “cradle” of the Vallet scholarship has contributed to laying the foundation for many USTH students to achieve success in their careers, including many who have excellently received prestigious scholarships from major universities worldwide or become “core” personnel at domestic and international organizations and enterprises.
