On October 18, 2022, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) solemnly held the Opening Ceremony of the academic year 2022-2023 to welcome nearly 900 new Bachelor, Master and PhD students.
The Opening Ceremony was honored to welcome Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan – Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh – President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Mr. Nicolas Warnery – French Ambassador to Vietnam, Prof. Chu Hoang Ha – Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Bernard Legube – President of USTH Consortium, and many distinguished guests, strategic partners, staff, lecturers and all new Gen 13 students.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest expressed his delight at the university’s successes in the past academic year. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest emphasized that the number of students enrolling continuously increased in recent years. It shows that USTH is now in the group of prestigious higher education institutions for science and technology training in Vietnam. This also proves the sustainable growth of USTH, successfully overcoming the difficulties and challenges coming from the Covid-19 epidemic, and at the same time demonstrating the right development direction in terms of training, research, and international cooperation of the University, contributing to the unique value and difference of USTH with other universities.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector congratulated and thanked 900 new bachelor, master and doctoral students in the academic year 2022-2023 for choosing USTH as a destination for the upcoming journey of conquering knowledge. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest sent a message to new students: “Choosing USTH not only brings honor but also requires commitment and effort from you. To get a bachelor’s degree after 3 years of study like students in France, you will have to constantly adapt, be open to international cultures and fully invest in your studies. Of course, you will not be alone on this path. We will always be by your side to bring the best training environment for you to succeed”.
Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest also said that, from the academic year 2022-2023, USTH decided to name each intake after a great scientist of Vietnam or France to honor the contributions of science and technology with society, and at the same time building the unique identity of the USTH community. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest officially announced that this intake will be named after the outstanding physicist and chemist, the laureate of 2 Nobel prizes: Marie Curie.
This academic year’s opening ceremony, USTH is honored to welcome Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan – Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President emphasized that the opening ceremony of the 2022-2023 academic year of USTH took place at a meaningful time in the process of building and developing the university, which is the year Vietnam and France celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Vice President believes that USTH will promote its results and achievements, unite and strive to build the university into a leading science and technology research university in Vietnam, reaching the regional and international level, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources, and being a symbol of the substantive and effective strategic partnership between Vietnam and France.
The Vice President sent a message to the new students: “I wish and believe that you always strive and practice to pursue your passion for science and technology, realize your dreams and ambitions, become elite citizens, have patriotic spirit, self-reliance, desire to dedicate, contribute to building a prosperous and happy country.”
This year, 20 representative students with excellent achievements were honored to be given gifts by the Vice President to encourage their spirit of constant improvement in study.
Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology highly appreciated USTH’s achievements in the past academic year, especially in the context of two consecutive years with the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic which has affected the social life of Vietnam in general and the teaching and learning activities of universities in particular. USTH has succeeded in “turning challenges into opportunities” to achieve many remarkable results, especially in admissions. The academic year 2022-2023 is the academic year with the highest number of new students since the establishment of the university, a clear proof of the trust of the society in the university, as well as the position of USTH.
Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh affirmed that in order to meet the development of USTH, the leaders of VAST and its affiliated units also give maximum support to the training work of lecturers and students, including supporting lecture halls at specialized institutes, laboratories and practice workshops. In addition, VAST is also closely directing the construction project of USTH, striving to complete the future campus of USTH in 2025.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Nicolas Warnery – French Ambassador to Vietnam affirmed that USTH’s success is a clear demonstration of the close cooperation between Vietnam and France in the field of science and technology. He believes that USTH is converging on many favorable factors to grow stronger in the future. He also congratulated the new students who made the right decision when choosing USTH and expressed his confidence in their efforts in the coming years.
Representative of Gen 13, Ms. Nguyen Khanh Linh (Medical Science and Technology) expressed pride in becoming a new student of USTH. Linh shared that during her time in high school, there were times she lost her orientation about the future, the major and the university she wanted to pursue. But when she learned about USTH’s training model, “I felt like I saw the light at the end of the tunnel”. Linh believes that USTH will become a “beginning step” to help herself and the new students of Gen 13-Marie Curie develop their potential, become a better, more responsible version of themselves, and become the representative image of USTH, contributing to the development of society.
At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal beat the drum to open the academic year, with many determinations and ambitions of USTH lecturers and students.
