On June 12, 2024, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) warmly welcomed distinguished delegations from Boeing Vietnam.
Welcoming Boeing Vietnam delegations were Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Principal Rector, Assoc. Prof. Ngo Quang Minh – Deputy Director of Department of Aeronautics, Mr. Luc Le Calvez – Director of Department of Research, Innovation, and Technological Transfer, Ms. Do Thi Thuy Trang – Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation, Ms. Le Thanh Hang – Academic Assistant of Department of Aeronautics.
Representing Boeing Vietnam were Mr. Nguyen Vu Michael – Country Director, Mr. Dung (Dino) Ngo – Senior Safety & Regulatory, Affairs Engineer.
USTH’s Department of Aeronautics is established under the Intergovernmental Agreement between France and Vietnam about space and aeronautical engineering signed on 12/11/2009. With wide cooperation between domestic and international partners, as well as elaborately constructed training programs, the Bachelor in Aeronautical Engineering program is highly rated by domestic aviation companies, especially by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). The Bachelor in Aeronautical Engineering program is aimed at training the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer at the university level. With the participation of lecturers from Europe, the program will consist of 30 months of basic theoretical and practical classes focusing on such topics as aircraft maintenance and systems, testing and technical support, quality and status of aircraft, and aviation operations. The program also includes internship and professional practice at VAECO. In addition to the direction of training and work on aircraft maintenance, students also have the option of further study in Aeronautical engineering.

Boeing has long recognized the importance of Vietnam and, for more than 25 years, has worked to develop and strengthen Vietnam’s aerospace capabilities. In recognition of Vietnam’s growing aviation industry, its diverse economy, and its investment in a highly-skilled workforce, Boeing opened its first office in Hanoi in 2021. Boeing investments in Vietnam have helped grow the local aerospace sector, creating jobs and driving innovation. Boeing has continued its commitment to develop Vietnam’s commercial aviation sector through facilitating new airplane leases, sourcing parts from companies based in Vietnam, working with the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) and Vietnam Airlines to provide on-the-job training as well as helping Vietnam integrate itself into the global aviation environment to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
At the meeting, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest provided an overview of USTH’s history, training model, and achievements over the past 15 years. He also mentioned the challenges and opportunities that USTH has been encountering to develop the training program in Aeronautical Engineering. Professor emphasized that USTH is going to expand its partner network in the field of aviation in order to bring more training opportunities for students as well as enhance the program quality.
Mr. Nguyen Vu Michael – Country Director of Boeing Vietnam expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from USTH’s Rector Board and expressed his great impression of USTH’s remarkable development since its establishment, especially the development of Department of Aeronautics. He also shared about Boeing’s current programs for young students in the field of aviation such as intern programs in Boeing engineering center in the US, workshops with experts in different countries.
At the meeting, representatives of USTH and Boeing Vietnam exchanged ideas about the possibilities of cooperative projects in the future, including summer internships and job opportunities for Aeronautical students, funding research for lecturers, developing the training program as well as research activities with the participation of Boeing experts, and promoting the program.
The meeting between USTH and Boeing Vietnam concluded, paving the way for future collaborations between the two parties.
