The International Cooperation Department is the first point of contact for requests involving international delegations that wish to visit our campus. Our role is to offer advice to visiting delegations, search for common areas of interest with administrators or faculty, and to facilitate the eventual planning and logistics of delegation visits.
Please note
- Visa validity is shorter than passport or international travel document by at least 30 days.
- Visas to Vietnam are usually processed from 10 to 14 (2 weeks) business days.
- During the summer months (July-August) many academics are away conducting research and therefore not all requests can be accommodated
- If you are coming under Erasmus mobility program, please send your mobility agreement with request details via our email ico@usth.edu.vn with Subject: Erasmus Mobility Program_ [your name].
- All requests are acknowledged upon receipt.
- Host department is required to submit information of incoming foreigner to ICO including: passport information, length of stay, address of residence via our email ico@usth.edu.vn.
Visa types and how to apply

Type A. Free visa
Departments intend to invite incoming experts to USTH for 45 days, single entry, have citizenship of one of 13 countries: Germany, France, Italia, Spain, the UK, Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus, they are exempted from visa.
For foreigners entering a country under unilateral visa exemption, their passports must be valid for at least 06 months and must be at least 30 days from the time of last exit from Vietnam.
Citizens of the following Asian countries will be exempted from visa on a bilateral basis including: Brunei (14 days), Myanmar (14 days), Philippines (30 days), Cambodia (30 days), Thailand (30 days), Malaysia (30 days), Singapore (30 days), Indonesia (30 days), Laos (30 days).

Type B. E-visa
Departments intend to invite incoming experts to USTH for a maximum of 90 days, please verify that a foreigner is a citizen of one of the listed 80 countries.
If yes, they may submit a personal online visa application via this official page of E-visa application of Immigration Department. Departments should produce an expert invitation letter and submit it to Rector Board for signature and send it to the invited person.
E-visa fee is paid via electronic payment gateway as prescribed by the Immigration Department. The fee will not be refunded if the application is refused. Please check List of Ports that allow foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam by E-visa.
Visa fee: 25 USD for single entry, 50 USD for Multiple entries
The E-visa will be proceed after 03 working days and will be sent to their personal email or can be checked via https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en_US/tra-cuu-thi-thuc

Type C. Other cases
Departments intend to invite incoming experts to USTH whose visa application cases do not fall into Type A and B above are required to have a Visa approval letter sponsored by USTH to enter Vietnam. A maximum duration is 3 months (single and multiple entries). Departments will need to provide to ICO documents as following:
- Submission and Invitation letter (attached Here) approved and signed by Rector Board (the form should be in Vietnamese).
- Visa application form (attached Here) declares information of visa date and type (for USTH’s Department)
- Scan of passport information
- Flight booking or confirmation of their expected arrival date.

Related Information of your arrival
- Check your passport, visa information, luggage(s)
- Exchange a small amount of money for some first days
- Buy a sim card
- Travel from Airport to your temporary residence: USTH will support airport pickup or you can choose well branded airport taxi such as NoiBai Taxi, Mai Linh, or G7 Taxi.
- Our host department will support you with your accommodation. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) provides a building for incoming foreigners which located close to our building.
- There are also plenty of serviced apartments, studio flats and other types of modern accommodations for expat workers, families, students or retirees. You can book via Booking.com or Airbnb.com.
- Please request your landlord/ house owner to register for your stay and update with us your accommodation information for immigration records.
- You should avoid taxi with no brand name as such can be scammers.
- We don’t have Uber but Grab and Be. You can download the app in your phone and book your car via the App.
- Bus is the most common public transportation in Hanoi.
- Major Vietnamese use Motorbikes or electric scooters for transportation.
- Hanoi has a humid tropical climate, characterized by monsoons, like most of Northern Vietnam. During summer season, from May to September, the temperature is high with plenty of rain and high humidity, and sometimes flood. The most sweltering hot month of the year is June.
- While in the winter, beginning in November to April, the weather is classified by coldness. Sometimes it may drop to below 10 degree, and the high humidity will lend a hand in making the weather bitter cold. January is the coolest month, usually beset with a cold north-easterly wind. Bring some serious warm clothes is necessary, if you do not want to get a cold when visiting a tropical country.
- Hanoi is most inviting from April to June, but the capital is particularly beautiful in May when trees suddenly come into bloom. September and October are also excellent months to visit as temperatures cool and the sky clears.
