Seminar on water quality and natural ecosystem health

From 22nd to 23rd November 2017, Division of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer with the support from Department of Water - Environment - Oceanography, Prof. Magali Gerino, University of Toulouse and Dr. Didier Orange (IRD) organized the first professional seminar, namely, "Policies and regulations to perform water quality and/or natural ecosystem health". 
 

Under the scope of Objectif Labos funded by Embassy of France in Hanoi, the first professional seminar on water quality, namely, “Policies and regulations to perform water quality and/or natural ecosystem health” was organized at USTH from 22nd to 23rd November 2017 by Division of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer (DRITT) with support from Water - Environment - Oceanography Department (WEO), Prof. Magali Gérino (University of Toulouse) and Dr. Didier Orange (IRD) related to the Teaching Unit “Ecological Engineering”.

The purpose was to provide the Master students with a professional overview on policies and regulations to perform water quality and/or natural ecosystem health, based on both Vietnamese and French speakers that will expose some aspects of what has been done, or planned to be done in respective countries. Each speaker had 45 minutes of presentation time followed by 30 minutes of group discussions.
Four speakers have been invited:

  • Mr Jean-Pierre Rebillard, Agence de l’Eau Adour Garonne (AEAG, French Water Agency for the Adour Garonne River Basin, Toulouse). Mr Rebillard is the Dean of the Water Quality Service at AEAG. He talked about:
    • Aquatic ecosystem monitoring and conclusions of 50 years of monitoring on the Garonne River Basin
    • Long-term management plan to control the Cadmium pollution within the Garonne River Basin

  • Ms. Mac Thi Minh Tra, Centre of Environmental Monitoring (CEM), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Hanoi. She talked about regulatory framework and monitoring for nutrient pollution control in Vietnam.

  • Dr. Dao Viet Ha, Head Researcher, Institute of Oceanography (IO), NhaTrang, talked about her study on contamination by heavy metals related to seafood safety in Vietnam.

  • Prof. Tran Duc Ha, senior researcher, Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering, National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE), Hanoi, talked about:
    •  Waste waters, sewerage and environmental sanitation in cities in Vietnam

This one-day-and-half workshop has been followed by a one-hour-and-half of discussion group coordinated by the students to resume and highlight the main conclusions concerning the waste water treatment and regulation tools in an anthroposystem, summarized into a powerpoint presentation, available under USTH intranet access.
