Seminar: "Intelligent Systems and a Language Transparent World"

08 Nov 2018 - 08 Nov 2018

04:00 PM – 05:30 PM

University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) would like to invite lecturers, researchers, experts, students and others to participate in the Seminar “Intelligent Systems and a Language Transparent World”, with Dr. Alexander Waibel, “father” of the first American and European Speech Translation system.

After centuries of separation and misunderstandings, we are lucky to be living in the generation that will see an end to language barriers between the peoples on our planet. The key to these advances has been the rapid advance of the artificial intelligence combined with the exponential growth in computing and language data. Thus, these applications are now becoming ubiquitous, making it feasible for all of us to operate and communicate in any country, language, mode and situation.

With a wealth of experience working in the field of machine learning, Dr. Waibel will introduce new communication technologies that help human overcome the communication barriers. He will also discuss remaining scientific challenges and what AI cannot do today. Furthemore,  he will speculate on a future that involves a symbiosis of human and machine capabilities.
