1. Introduction
FLC-USTH is currently in charge of instructing modules of the formal English Program.
The program helps strengthen students’ English foundation so that they are able to study Science subjects instructed by native and Vietnamese lecturers who are fluent in English and have qualifications and pedagogical expertise in a dynamic international learning environment.
In terms of teaching methodology, FLC focuses on developing skills and actions to help students practice, develop and maintain their English ability in the long term.
The English Program at FLC-USTH is designed towards the following specific objectives:
- Providing students with necessary English foundation before studying Science subjects taught 100% in English.
- Fostering students’ soft skills including listening and note-taking, presentation, scientific writing, and group working. These are necessary skills to help students be active and work more effectively in a variety of environments.
FLC-USTH manages and organizes the following English programs:
- The Program of Basic and Advanced English Language Skills (English B1)
- English Program Year 01 for students of the 4-year Bachelor’s Program: English pathway program for university preparation (English Program B0)
ENGLISH PROGRAM YEAR 01
FOR STUDENTS OF 3-YEAR-BACHELOR’s PROGRAM AND MASTER’s PROGRAM (*)(**)
*Students who have completed the Bachelor’s Program at USTH and got admission to the M1 Master’s Program are exempted from studying English.
** In addition to English B1, the English Program for those who have completed Bachelor’s Program at other universities and got admission to the M1 Master’s Program is also supplemented with 60 hours of Intermediate English; the program is designed in accordance with the format of IELTS English program.
2. The Program of Basic and Advanced English Language Skills (English B1)
The Program of Basic and Advanced English Language Skills (English B1) are for the students:
- having been admitted to the 3-year- Bachelor’s Program and having achieved the required entry-level of the 3-year-Bachelor’s Program (the USTH’s required entry-level is equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or higher)
- having completed the English program B0 for students of 4-year-Bachelor’s Program
- being admitted to 3-year Program and having completed the summer English course
- being admitted to 3-year Program and having completed the B1 Intensive English course
- having completed the Bachelor’s Program at other universities and being admitted to the M1 Master’s Program at USTH.
English B1 provides students with necessary English skills so that they are able to study Science subjects in Bachelor and Master’s Programs through basic and advanced English language skills.
This program helps sharpen students’ English skills so that they are able to familiarize themselves with the international university environment.
The B1 English entry-level is assessed through an admission interview and an English proficiency test (For details on the English proficiency test, please visit here)
B1 English Program is a compulsory language foundation preparation program for studying content subjects in English in the Bachelor’s Program. The academic results are counted in the overall results towards graduation.

In case of using other English testing systems such as Pearson or Cambridge, the students’ application will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All of the certificates are valid within 2 years and 3 months of the original test date.

3. English Program Year 01 for students of the 4-year Bachelor’s Program: English pathway program for university preparation (English Program B0)
English pathway program (English Program B0) is a program for students being admitted to the 4-year Bachelor’s Program.
The program is offered in the first year of the Bachelor’s Program. With the accelerated learning intensity, English B0 is designed to help students who haven’t reached the required English level for entry into the Bachelor’s Program to improve English proficiency in all English language skills. The program is designed for 3 semesters, providing students with knowledge, English communication skills and scientific English. It also helps enhance the students’ English skills to familiarize themselves with the international university environment.
With successful completion of the English Program B0, students can progress onto your 3-year Bachelor’s Program.
The English B0 entry-level is assessed through an admission interview and an English proficiency test (For more information about English proficiency test, please visit here)
English Program B0 is a compulsory language foundation preparation program for studying content subjects in English in the Bachelor’s Program. This is a conditional program, which is considered as the foundation to study the 3-year Bachelor’s Program. The academic results are not counted in the overall academic results towards graduation.
