As a university established under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and France, USTH identifies French as a foreign language that plays an important role in helping students find academic and internship opportunities, study and work in France as well as other French-speaking countries.
The French program of the FLC-USTH Center for Foreign Languages equips students with the necessary language foundation to be able to communicate with professors from the Consortium of French Universities and Research Institutions who come to teach at USTH. Through the program, students also have the opportunity to approach a new culture, form a different way of seeing the world with the existing stereotypes so that they can integrate into French society when participating in internships. After graduating, USTH students, in addition to being fluent in English, will have the added advantage of French competency to become a multilingual scientific generation, easily looking for good career opportunities for the future.
The method of teaching French at FLC-USTH follows the direction of skill development and action. Therefore, students will be trained in all 4 skills of listening – speaking – reading – writing through the process of learning and practicing with a team of experienced native and Vietnamese lecturers.
For undergraduate students, the French program is designed with a duration of 220 hours. The goal of the program is to help students reach the A2 level of the European Framework of Reference and be able to use French to communicate effectively.
For master’s students, the program duration is 100 hours with two training contents designed to suit many levels. Students who do not know French will be trained to reach the A1+ level of the European Framework of Reference.
