One- year English program
1. GENERAL INFORMATION OF THE PROGRAM
The one-year English program is for students whose English hasn't been sufficient enough to enroll the 3 year bachelor program but still express the desire to study at USTH. The program includes 500 hours for Communication English and 200 hours for Scientific English with the aim to provide the solid English foundation to lessen the pressure for the students in the upcoming bachelor years.

2. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
General English Program
The program’s main objective is to help students to improve their 4 skills of English language including Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing so that their English language level meet the basic requirements in order to be able to study subjects of specialty in English their B1 year.
This program aims at a proficiency goal of an equivalent of 4.5 to 5.0 IELTS for students who participate fully in the program.
Scientific English Program
The program’s main objective is to make students to be familiar with Scientific English using in Science. The program also help students to consolidate the knowledge of scientific courses (maths, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics) in high school. Moreover, the program will give students some knowledge of advanced science in order to be able to study subjects of specialty in English their B1 year.
3. METHODOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES
General English Program
This course employs the following teaching and learning approaches and methods:
- Learner-centered: the course places the learner and learning at the center of all teaching and learning activities.
- Learner autonomy: learners of the course are expected to be active in class and be able to work well on their own.
- Learning by doing: during the course students will be required to apply what they have learned in various ways.
- Pair work and Teamwork: As their cooperation is a pivotal source of learning, learners are expected to cooperate well with their classmates not only in class and self-study time but also in doing pair/ group assessment tasks.
Scientific English Program
Depending on the specific of each course, the course in general will be divided in different parts: theory, tutorial and practical classes. In the theory class, student will be reminded and summarize the knowledge which has been learned at high school in English. In addition, students will be specifically learned the advanced science to be able for following the Foundation program. In the tutorial part, students will have time to do exercises and to solve all problems which are raised in theory class with helping of teacher. The practical class will help students have more deeply understanding archived from theory and tutorial class and also give to students the manipulated skills in the laboratory.
