Bachelor in Applied Maths
The Applied Mathematics program is designed for students interested in the applications of mathematics in various areas such as computational sciences (fluid mechanics, materials science, and mathematical biology, etc.), engineering, image processing, ICT and mathematical finance. The program also provides an excellent preparation for graduate study in chosen subjects.
The program provide students a strong background in mathematics and computing skills required by diverse areas of applications. Successful completion of the program would allow the students many career choices in research institutions and in industry.
Mathematics is an indispensable tool for scientists and engineers. Many important discoveries in physics, chemistry, and biology require deep understanding of mathematics. Weather forecasting, search engines, internet security would not exists but for mathematics. These practical applications in return often raise many mathematical problems which are very challenging and interesting.
Mathematics has also become increasingly important in areas like economics and social sciences where it provides a broad set of qualitative and quantitative tools to organize and analyze big data sets.

3. PROGRAM OUTCOMES
Upon graduating from the Applied Math program, students should be able to
- Analyze and model practical problems mathematically
- Carry out computation on computer to study the problems
- Work in industries or pursue higher study
Some career choices for students graduated from the program are:
- Continue a graduate training abroad. Top students can get recommendations of the program committees and/or the lecturers for a master scholarship in Europe, the USA or Asia. As of 2017, a master scholarship in France is typically 500 – 1000 euros/month and a PhD scholarship in France is typically 1200 – 2000 euros/month.
- Continue in the USTH's Masters of ICT or Master of QCF. Scholarships are available and awarded based on USTH's policy.
- Get a job in the industry. The foundations and skills provided by the program will enable students to work in various sectors, such as banking and insurance, telecommunication, software engineering, tech-startup, etc.
