Signing ceremony between University of Science and Technology of Hanoi and Quy Nhon University

On May 30th, 2022, a cooperation agreement between Quy Nhon University (QNU) and  University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) was officially signed. 

Participating in the ceremony, on the side of QNU, was Assoc.Prof. Do Ngoc My - Rector, Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Tien Trung – Head of Research Affairs and International Relations Office, Assoc.Prof. Ho Xuan Quang – Head of Graduate Training Office, Dr. Nguyen Tien Phung – Vice-head of Undergraduate Training Office, Dr. Le Xuan Viet – Dean of Information Technology Department, Assoc.Prof. Huynh Duc Hoan – Dean of Science and Technology Department, Dr. Phan Thanh Hai – Vice-dean of Natural Sciences Faculty, MA. Huynh Ha Mi – Administrative staff of – Head of Research Affairs and International Relations Office (Interpreter); on the side of USTH, was Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest - Principal Rector, Dr. Nguyen Hai Dang - Vice Rector, Dr. Luc Le Calvez - Director of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer, Assoc. Prof. Tran Dinh Phong - Co-Director of Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer, Dr. Tran Giang Son - Deputy Director of Department of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Hoang Trung Kien - Deputy Director of Department of Energy, and Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nhi - International Cooperation Department Officer.

Beginning the ceremony, there were presentations to introduce USTH and QNU. USTH is a Vietnamese public university with the mission to provide high quality human resources in Science and Technology, and to become an excellent research-oriented university in Vietnam. The university is strongly supported by the French Government through a Consortium of more than 30 universities and research institutions in France. As USTH aims at becoming an international university, it is essential for USTH to build up strong relationships with national and international universities, institutions and business.

Since its establishment in 1977, Quy Nhon University has grown steadily, in terms of scope, level, quality of training, as well as the quantity and quality of teaching staff. Up to now, the University has 16 faculties with 46 disciplines including pedagogical disciplines, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, economics-finance, engineering and technology, with approximately 13,000 full-time students. Quy Nhon University has become a prestigious training institution. The University’s work of scientific research is increasingly promoted; The number of lecturers participating in scientific research has increased. Especially, 6 basic research groups in the fields of mathematics and chemistry have been set up. Over the past few years, a lot of high-quality research products, especially in the field of basic research have been created. In the academic year 2017-2018, there are 02 national-level key research themes, 18 Nafosted projects, 26 research projects, ministry- and provincial level tasks, 108 university-level research studies; 446 articles, scientific works have been published in domestic and foreign journals, of which 56 articles published in journals indexed in SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A&HCI, and ESCI. Also, the University has held 09 national and international scientific conferences.

In terms of cooperation between QNU and USTH, two universities agreed to cooperate in training, research and technology transfer. Since QNU has some majors which are relevant to USTH’s programs such as Information Technology, Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Food Technology, Environmental Technology, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Electronics and Energy, QNU would like to cooperate with USTH in lecturer and student exchange program, internship offer for students as well as teaching and research experience sharing. Especially, QNU wants to send students to USTH for the Master and PhD programs. Moreover, QNU also suggested developing collaborative research with USTH based on the modern facilities of the two sides. In addition, USTH agreed with QNU about the exchange credits plan for students with good English skills.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof. Do Ngoc My - Rector of QNU emphasized that the signing of the cooperation agreement with USTH is very special as students who come to USTH will have opportunities to study in an international environment in Vietnam. It will become an important foundation to foster and train more talented students, contributing to the development of the economy and society in Vietnam in general and the field of science - technology of the provinces of the South Central Coast and the Central Highlands in particular in the future.

On behalf of USTH, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Principal Rector expressed his delight at the new step in the partnership between USTH and QNU, as well as his belief in the success of the cooperation. He hoped two universities could implement the plan as soon as possible and develop the mobility between USTH and QNU as well as strengthen the connection between two regions of the country.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest and Assoc.Prof. Do Ngoc My signed the cooperation agreement between QNU and USTH, opening up opportunities for study and academic exchange for young people who are passionate about science and technology as well as the desire to experience and develop themselves, thereby accessing various job opportunities in the future.
